Today In Black History.

On this date in 1917 The New York City Fifth Avenue Silent March was held. The march was organized by the NAACP with 10,000 Blacks marching in silent protest of lynchings and racial inequalities. James Weldon Johnson and W. E. B. Du Bois were leaders in the march. At this time there were over 800 lynchings a year in the United States.
